Microsoft founder and the fourth richest man in the world, Bill Gates, says he wants to give out all his money to the needy through charity programs until he drops out from the list of the wealthiest people in the world.
Bill Gates is the co-founder of Microsoft and was once the
richest man in the world. He is currently the fourth richest man in the world after
Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Bernard Arnault in first, second, and third positions,
respectively. Bill Gates’ current net worth is estimated to be around $122-123
billion.
Bill Gates Charity Programs | Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
The Microsoft founder is not a newbie in charity and philanthropic
programs. He has been regarded by many as the biggest philanthropist of all
time. His charity programs led to the founding of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, a non-governmental charity organization founded in the year 2000 by
Bill Gates and his ex-wife Melinda Gates.
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation was set up to tackle
poverty, and disease, and create equity around the world beginning in developing
countries. The Foundation has played a major role in disease control and free vaccination
in Africa, Asia, and Oceania.
Through the duo, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has
become the biggest philanthropic organization in the world. Although the
foundation bears the name “Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation”, Bill Gates said
on his Twitter page that half of the Foundations' donations come from one of the
richest men in the world, Warren Buffett.
Bill Gates Philanthropic Missions and Fight Against Poverty
Bill Gates's current mission is to donate all his wealth to
the needy until he returns to a normal life. Gates made this clear through his
Twitter handle.
“With the support and guidance of our board, we plan to
increase our spending from nearly $6 billion per year today to $9 billion per
year by 2026. To help make this spending increase possible, I am transferring $20
billion to the foundation’s endowment this month”, he posted. Reports show that
the total donations Bill Gates has given to charity are not over $55 billion.
Gates also expressed his concern over the
situation and crisis around the world. “The pandemic is one of the
biggest setbacks in history. The war in Ukraine is a gigantic tragedy for the
entire world, the damage from climate change is already what most models predicted.
But I’m optimistic... we will get back to the progress the world was making”, he said.
“As I look to the future, I plan to give virtually all my
wealth to the foundation. I will move down and eventually off the list of the
world’s richest people. I must return my resources to society
in ways that have the greatest impact on reducing suffering and improving
lives”, Gates added.
The donations by Bill Gates to charity will go a long in tackling pandemics, hunger, poverty, and the effects of climate change around the world, and will serve as an example for others to know the need to donate to the poor and bring economic and social equity to our planet.
