A 12-year-old British-Nigerian kid, Chika Ofili, Receives Scholar Award for the Discovery of New Mathematics Formula

A British-Nigerian kid, Master Chika Ofili, has received a scholar award after his discovery in mathematics, making him one of the youngest mathematics scholars in the world.

The 12-year-old kid discovered a new mathematics formula that breaks the complex rules of division of numbers.

Chika’s discovery Makes it much easier for anyone to play around with division and other arithmetic operations.

Chika’s new formula solves issues related to divisibility by 7.

In his formula, to know if any number is divisible by 7, take the last digit of any whole number, and multiply it by 5.

Then add the resulting answer to the remaining part of the original number to get a new result. Chika discovered that if the new result is divisible by 7, the original number can be divided by 7.

According to reports, Chika’s discovery came after he tried to do a holiday assignment given to him by his mathematics teacher, Miss Mary Ellis who is also the head of the mathematics department at Westminster Under School.

Mrs. Ellis said that she gave Chika a book called First Steps for Problem Solvers (published by the UKMT) to study during the holidays.

The book contained several divisibility tests, which are used to quickly work out whether a number is exactly divisible by either 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 before you start dividing. However, the book did not have an easy formula to help divisibility by 7.

It was during the process of struggling to solve this problem that Master Chika discovered the new formula.

Miss Ellis then gave Chika's formula to her brother, Simon Ellis, who is a mathematics teacher. It was Simon that wrote an algebraic proof for the mathematics formula. Simon also discovered that the rules work also if one multiplies the last digit by 12, 19, 26, 33, n.

Mathematically:

Given a number ABC, to know if ABC is divisible by 7,

i. Multiply C by 5

Let C×5=D (new number)

ii. Add D(new number to the remaining original number)

AB+D= E (result)

iii. If E (result) is divisible by 7, then ABC (original number) is divisible by 7.

Let’s try Chika's New mathematics Formula:

Check if 315 is divisible by 7

31+(5×5) =31+25=56.

Is 56 divisible by 7?

Yes, 56 is a multiple of 7.

56÷7=8

If 56 (the result) is divisible by 7, then 315, the original number is divisible by 7.

This is as simple as ABC. This formula works even for larger numbers.
