A terror organization, the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP), also known as Jama'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihad says it is now present in South-West Nigeria. This group statement was published by the Sahara Reporters.

The group also claims to be responsible for the attack that targeted a police vehicle in Ondo. The attack took place in Ipele, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, against a police patrol vehicle.

Details of the attack are not clear as there had been no official report from the Nigerian authority about such an incident, however, there had been several attacks from terrorists across Nigeria in recent years by several factions of Islamic terrorists including Boko Haram, ISWAP, and other minor groups.

Terrorism in Nigeria only affected the North region, especially, the Northeast. However, the terrorists had expanded their territories to North-Central Nigeria including the Nigerian capital, Abuja, and other states like Kogi and Taraba. In May, the terrorists attacked Kabba, a town in Kogi State, North-Central, for which ISWAP claimed responsibility.

Terror organizations across Nigeria focus on Islamization and the creation of Islamic caliphates across the West African region. They also fight against Western Education and modern values.

Terrorists in Nigeria operate through bombings, killings, kidnappings, and maiming. The terrorists had carried out a lot of successful attacks against Nigerian security forces. Although the Nigerian security operatives have been making reports of their success in the war against terrorism, terrorism remains a threat to an average Nigerian.

The report for the expansion of ISWAP to South-West Nigeria is a subject of concern. This is because South-West Nigeria, just like other regions in the South, had not seen conflicts for years. This raises an alert of security consciousness and fear among citizens.

Meanwhile, a global terror monitoring organization, recently, placed Nigeria as the second most terrorized country on earth after Iraq. Nigeria was only followed by Afghanistan.

Terrorism in Nigeria had cost the country billions of dollars worth of properties. Several lives have been cut short and millions displaced. The fact that Nigerian security cannot curtail this high level of insecurity is a subject of concern for many Nigerians.
