Gunmen have assassinated Victoria Chintex, the Labor Party's women leader in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The assassins invaded her residence in Kaura, Southern Kaduna, on Monday, attacking her and her husband. She reportedly died instantly from bullet shots, while her husband was rushed to an undisclosed medical facility where he is currently receiving treatment.

In a report by Vanguard, the Labor party's publicity secretary in Southern Kaduna, Edward Buju, on Tuesday, revealed that the deceased was an industrious, hardworking, and dedicated leader of the party.

Mr. Edward Buju, on behalf of the Southern Kaduna LP, however, expressed sadness and condolence to the members of the party in the local government.

Gunmen Assassinate Labor Party Women Leader in Southern Kaduna

"The Southern Kaduna (Zone 3) Labor Party commiserates with the party chairman and his excos in Kaura Local Government Area, over the untimely demise of our mother and sister, Mrs. Victoria Chintex, women leader, Kaura Local Government Area, who was killed yesterday (Monday) by some unknown gunmen in her residence in Kaura".

"More so, as we await the burial plans by the family, the zone 3 Labour Party will make support her family," Buju said in a statement published by the Vanguard.

The party chairman also advised members of the public from the local government to be law abiding and allow God to take revenge for the demise of the women leader.

"On behalf of our presidential candidate, Peter Obi; our gubernatorial candidate in Kaduna State, Jonathan Asake; the party senatorial candidate for Southern Kaduna zone, Mike Auta, we call on the people of Kaura Local Government Area, to be law-abiding as vengeance is of the Lord," Budu added in his statement.

Ahead of Nigeria's 2023 general election, there has been a tough political tussle for the seat of the presidency among the three major political parties (Labour Party, LP, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and All Progressive Congress, APC) in the country

While several states in Southern Nigeria have a great number of supporters for the Labor Party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, the North seems to have fewer people backing Obi's ambition.

Kaduna State for instance is a Northcentral state currently ruled by the All Progressive Congress. There are reports strong resistance and attacks against those who support opposition parties in the state.

Besides, Kaduna State is known as one of the most insecure states in Nigeria. There had been countless reports of attacks and killing of religious and political minorities in the state. Although there is no official report about the intent of the gunmen who killed the women leader, it is alleged that her demise is a politically motivated assassination.
