Nigerian Gospel Singer Sammie Okposo is Dead, Details Here

The popular Nigerian gospel artiste, songwriter, singer, and producer, Sammi Okposo, is dead. He was 51.

Okposo reportedly died on Friday 25th November 2022 by 4 am according to his management and close associates in the United Kingdom.

It is not yet clear what caused his demise but reports reaching us state that the renowned gospel artiste slumped at a yet-to-be-disclosed hospital in Lagos, Nigeria, this morning, where he passed on. The unfortunate incident is attributed to hypertension which he reportedly suffered from.

Before his demise, Okposo stirred a controversial social media trend early this year after he took to his official Instagram page to publicly apologized to his wife, Ozioma Okposo, and confessed to cheating on her with another woman in the United States.

Following his confession, he announced his withdrawal from the gospel music ministration, stating that he wanted to retrace his step with God before returning to the ministry.

Sammie Okposo was instrumental in creating the Nigerian gospel music space as we know it today. He was well known for his skill in blending traditional/indigenous and foreign music to create a unique style of symphony.

He was also known for his energetic and outstanding stage performances and was an icon in the African gospel music world.

Born on 30th May 1971 in Delta State, Nigeria, Okposo began his musical career in 1992 as a sound-track producer. He rose to fame in the late 90s and 2000s. Some of his popular songs include "Unconditional Love", and "Well well", among others.

Since Okposo rose into the music limelight, he has remained a household name in Nigeria, Africa, and other parts of the world.

Many regard him as one of the founders of Nigerian modern gospel music and his demise is a great shock to gospel music fans around the world.
