Report says the four children aged 2, 5, 9, and 11, went to sleep together with their mum, however, their bodies were found dead the following morning of Wednesday with some obvious injuries.
A statement by the Eastern Cape Police spokesman, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana reveals that the children were attacked by their mother with a sledgehammer. The sledgehammer was used on their upper bodies and they were badly injured to dead.
“The children were found in the morning. When the father saw the mother outside as they were talking they went into the room, and that was when the father got information that this was what had happened. But as I said, I am unable at this point to determine terms of the sequence of events because the investigation is still ongoing.”
"Preliminary investigation reveals that they had been assaulted by their mother with a sledgehammer. Consequently, they suffered serious injuries to their upper bodies," Kinana said. Police said she has been arrested and placed behind bars where she will appear in court for murder.
Kinana added that the police are still investigating the incident to understand the motives behind such an attack, hence, the police cannot give full details to the public.
“We are investigating the circumstances around the incident and the mother was immediately arrested. She will be charged with murder. We are going to bring her to Ngcobo Magistrate’s once charged,” Kinana added.
