Basketmouth and Elsie Okpocha End 12-Year Marriage with Divorce
Popular Nigerian actor and veteran comedian, Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basket Mouth , has announced that he and his wife, Elsie Uzoma Okpocha, are divorcing after 12 years of marriage.
The veteran comedian made the announcement in a statement on Thursday released through an emotional post on his verified Facebook and Instagram pages.
In the statement, Basket Mouth said that the decision to divorce was taken with a heavy heart. He added that both of them would continue to work together in caring for their children, while requesting the public to respect their privacy during this challenging time.
The statement reads: "As much as it pains me to bring my personal life to the public space, this is an unavoidable situation.
After much deliberations, my wife and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage.
As we move forward separately, we will continue to work together to give our beautiful children all the care, love, guidance and support they need.
We humbly ask that you respect our privacy as we navigate through these times. Thank you."
Basket Mouth and Elsie have been married since 2010, and have three children together, Janelle, Jason, and Maya Okpocha; however, the veteran comedian already had a child from another lady before he got married to his wife.
The news of the divorce has left many people surprised and shocked the Nigerian entertainment industry, as the couple had always seemed happy and strong together. It is not yet known why the couple decided to go their separate ways.
Basket Mouth is one of Nigeria's most successful comedians. He first dabbled in comedy in the year 1995 and has been in the industry for over 20 years. He has been nominated for several awards, including the Best Comedian at the 2014 Africa Movie Academy Awards.
