Lionel Messi's post, celebrating his team's victory at the World Cup, has now become the most-liked Instagram post in history. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta (the mother company of Facebook and Instagram), made this known on Tuesday, through a post on his Facebook official page.

In the post, Zuckerberg said, "Leo Messi's World Cup post is now the most liked in Instagram in history".

He added that the post does not only trend on Instagram but on other social media platforms including WhatsApp. "WhatsApp also reached a record 25 million messages per second during the final".
The post which featured different photos of Lionel Messi lifting up the World Cup after the Argentina's victory against France at Lusail Stadium, with caption "CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD", has now been liked by over 64.95 million people and counting. The G.O.A.T's post had also seen over 1.787 million comments; making it the most-liked post in the history of Instagram.

In the post which was shared in Spanish language on Sunday, Lionel Messi celebrates Argentina's victory, expressing joy to have seen his dream come true through the World Cup win. He also appreciated his family and supporters, and merited the Argentine team for winning the world cup tournament.

The post surpassed the previous most liked Instagram post record holder, an image of an egg posted by the Instagram account "world_record_egg" in 2019 which had 57.2 million likes. The post has been widely praised by fans, lovers of football and celebrities alike.

Lionel Messi is the first sports star to have solitarily broken the record for the most-liked post on Instagram, and is the first to surpass 64 million likes. On the back of this success, Messi has also become one of the most-followed sports star on Instagram, with over 404 million followers.
