Bandits Burn a Christian Priest to Death in Niger State, Nigeria

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked a catholic priest, Very Reverend Father Isaac Achi in Niger State, Nigeria, burning him to death. The priest was reportedly attacked, beaten and set ablaze by the bandits at his parish residence at the early hours of Sunday, January 15th, 2023.

Father Achi, until his gruesome murder, was the parish priest of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kafin Koro, as well as the Dean of Kafin Koro Deanery in the Catholic Diocese of Minna, the capital of Niger State of Nigeria.
He was also the chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN),Paikoro Local Government Area, Niger State.

Sources say that the Parish assistant to Father Achi, Revered Father Collins, was with the late priest at the time of the attack but escaped with injuries of gunshots. He is reported to has been rushed into the hospital.

The killing of the Very Reverend Father Isaac Achi is just one of the many attacks against Christians priests and thousands of attacks against Christians in Nigeria.

There had been increasing assaults against Christians in Northern Nigeria, a region where Islam is the dominant religious practice. Although there is high level of terrorism and banditry generally in the region, Christians have suffered most attacks both by bandits/terrorists.

The International Christian Concern, in a report on 15 May 2022, described Nigeria as the world's scariest country in which to be a Christian for what they refer to as extreme level of Christian persecution. The study added that there is more persecution against Christians in Nigeria over Saudi Arabia, the home of Islam.
