Microsoft Integrates OpenAI's ChatGPT into Bing, Creating a 'Super Surfer' Edge Browser

Microsoft OpenAI's ChatGPT-Bing Integration boosts Edge browser experience.

Microsoft has integrated OpenAI's ChatGPT into Bing search engine, creating a new "Super" OpenAI-powered Edge browser.

"The new Bing is running on a new, next-generation OpenAI large language model that is more powerful than ChatGPT and customized specifically for search. It takes key learnings and advancements from ChatGPT and GPT-3.5 – and it is even faster, more accurate and more capable," said the company.

The integration of OpenAI's natural language processing system to form OpenAI-powered Bing Search and Edge browser will help Bing provide more accurate and relevant search results. This new technology offers features that are similar to the popular ChatGPT chatbot, but with an even more powerful artificial intelligence model that improves browsing experience.

In a statement during the launch of the new technology, Microsoft through its Chairman and CEO, Satya Nadella, said,
“AI will fundamentally change every software category, starting with the largest category of all – search. Today, we’re launching Bing and Edge powered by AI copilot and chat, to help people get more from search and the web.”

Microsoft added that the new browser will provide more efficient search results, comprehensive responses, a modern chat interface, and the capability to produce content by itself.

"To empower people to unlock the joy of discovery, feel the wonder of creation and better harness the world’s knowledge, today we’re improving how the world benefits from the web by reinventing the tools billions of people use every day, the search engine and the browser," he said.

The technology will help Bing better interpret user queries by using natural language processing to better understand the context of the query, allowing for more relevant search results. An estimated 5 billion search queries go unanswered every day, out of the total 10 billion searches conducted daily.

Despite that there are millions of websites and web pages, most searches do not provide precise responses due to search engines' inability to comprehend user inquiries and return the exact information requested.

The integration of OpenAI's ChatGPT technology into Bing is meant to help improve the search engine's ability to understand natural language queries.

Edge has been given a facelift, with the addition of AI capabilities, plus two new tools - Chat and compose add-on. The new Edge sidebar allows users to quickly get the gist of a long financial document, while the chat function enables them to compare to a rival firm's accounts, followed by a table of the data. Edge's compose feature assists in creating items such as social media posts, with just a few prompts to get going.

In one of its official publications on Tuesday: "Reinventing search with a new AI-powered Microsoft Bing and Edge, your copilot for the web", the company revealed that the new Bing is currently available in a limited preview on desktop, and that everyone can sign up for the waitlist to try using it by visiting Bing.com .

"The new Bing is available in a limited preview on desktop, and everyone can visit Bing.com today to try sample queries and sign up for the waitlist. We’re going to scale the preview to millions in the coming weeks. A mobile experience will also be in preview soon," the company said.

Features of the new OpenAI-Powered Bing Edge browser that would enhance users experience include better search, a new chat experience, complete answers to queries, a creative spark, and new Microsoft Edge experience.

Microsoft disclosed that the new development is as a result of its breakthrough in Next-generation OpenAI model, Microsoft Prometheus model, Applying AI to core search algorithm, and New user experience.

The integration of OpenAI's ChatGPT technology into both Bing and Edge is part of Microsoft's larger effort to create a more intelligent and responsive search engine. This integration should help Bing become a more intelligent and powerful search engine, providing more accurate and relevant results to users. It is also the beginning of new browsing experience that would change the world of the internet as we know it.
