UK-Nigeria Tech Hub has partnered with Google for Startups Africa, to provide about $3 million in Cloud credits to female entrepreneurs in Nigeria as part of the Digital Access Program (DAP) by the Government of the United Kingdom (UK) to Africa. This subsidized technology support is expected to give women startups the resources they need to focus on innovation, customer acquisition, and growth.
The two organizations also co-hosted an event in Lagos, Nigeria, during the just commemorated International Women's Day to assist founders in understanding the tech funding landscape and to secure much-needed funding for their startup businesses.
Justina Oha, Country Director of UK-Nigeria Tech Hub, expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting it was an important step in helping female business owners reach their potential.
“We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with Google for Startups, which comes at a perfect time to celebrate International Women’s Day. This partnership is a testament to our commitment to helping women founders reach their full potential and advance Nigeria’s tech ecosystem at an accelerated pace,” she said.
Folarin Aiyegbusi, Head of Startup Ecosystem at Google Africa, added that this partnership is an opportunity to empower women entrepreneurs and contribute to the growth of Nigeria's tech sector.
Nigeria is home to the most valuable tech startups in Africa. Many young Nigerians have invested into technology making the country the main focus of the technological trend in the continent. Several companies and organization have moved in to enhance this development, such as the Starlink which recently began its first African services in Nigeria.
This development is a way forward to empower and motivate Nigerian women into participating in the current technological and innovative trend in the country.
