Meta Plans to Employ AI Across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp

The Meta AI project, according to the company comes in two main areas: first, the massive recommendations and ranking infrastructure that powers all of the company's products- from feeds, to Reels, to ads system, to integrity systems and that which the company have been working on for many years. Second, the new generative foundation models that are enabling entirely new classes of products and experiences.
Sharing the company's quarterly report for 2023 on Tuesday, Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, expressed satisfaction over the growth of the company and the positive turnout of active daily users over last year and the first quarter of this year.
Some of the notable growth in the company include the increase of the Meta app users to more than 3 billion people, the over 2 billion times daily sharing of reels and 40% increase rate in WhatsApp business messaging.
"This was a good quarter and we're seeing growing momentum in our products and business. Our community reached the milestone that now more than 3 billion people use at least one of our apps each day.

Facebook also reached the milestone of 200 million daily actives in the US and Canada after last quarter reaching 2 billion daily actives worldwide," Zuckerberg said.
Zuck attributed the success of the company to several factors including Meta meeting customers expectations, the company's restructuring, its effort in AI development and integration, investment in recommendations and ranking systems which he believes has driven a lot of good results across Meta's discovery engines, Reels, and ads.
Talking about it's recent layoffs of staff, Zuckerberg described it as a hard decision he had to take. Meanwhile, he added that there will be more layoffs after which the company will reach a stable number of employees for productivity and efficiency.

Meta's Ongoing Projects
Zuckerberg also listed other projects that are ongoing on the Meta platforms for future results to include:- Building of business messaging features to add to the existing click-to-message ads and WhatsApp paid messaging services.
- Creation of AI foundation models to enable a lot of new use cases including generative AI to enhance the platform's productivity and improve creators efficiency.
- Improvement on Visual reality (VR) through the Metaverse which will make next generation consumer virtual and mixed reality devices available to the public before the end of the year.
Meta AI Integration for User Experience boost and the VR Project through Metaverse
The CEO in his statement, emphasized on the Meta's plan to integrate more AI tools into its operations as well as making them available into the public. Some of the AI tools, according to him, has been released to researchers for testing inorder to confirm the accuracy of the model before launch."Our approach to AI and our infrastructure has always been fairly open. We open source many of our state of the art models so people can experiment and build with them. This quarter we released our LLaMa LLM to researchers.
It has 65 billion parameters but outperforms larger models and has proven quite popular. We've also open-sourced three other groundbreaking visual models along with their training data and model weights -- Segment Anything, DinoV2, and our Animated Drawings tool -- and we've gotten some positive feedback on all of those as well."
In contrast to the Media reports about the company abandoning its plan to build a visual world (the Metaverse) where people can have real-time interaction through VR, Mark said the plan is still live. He noted that more than a billion Metaverse Avatars have been created so far with investment into the project exceeding $25 million in revenue.
"We've been focusing on both AI and the metaverse for years now, and we will continue to focus on both. There's been some confusion that we're moving away from the metaverse vision, but I want to be clear that this isn't the case.

Building the metaverse is a long term project, but the rationale for it remains the same and we remain committed to it." - Mark Zuckerberg added.
